Privacy Policy for Splitz
This Privacy Policy explains how Disco Volante Labs LLC ("we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the Splitz mobile application for iOS and Android ("Splitz" or "the app"). We've written this in plain language because we think you deserve to understand what happens with your data.
The short version. Splitz stores your receipts and splits on your device. We don't run a backend server for your data, we don't have an account system, and we don't collect your receipts or splitting data.
The only data collected through Splitz is anonymous usage and ad data, collected by Google services: Firebase Analytics (to understand how the app is used) and Google AdMob (to serve ads). Neither is tied to your identity. Both are linked only to anonymous device identifiers.
Information stored on your device
When you use Splitz, the following information is created and stored locally on your device only:
- Items, prices, taxes, fees, and tips you enter or edit
- Names you assign to people you're splitting with
- Payment requests you generate for Venmo or Cash App
When you scan or upload a receipt, the image is processed on your device to extract text and then discarded. Splitz does not save the receipt image itself. Only the parsed items and amounts are stored. (If you took the photo with your camera, the original photo remains in your device's photo library, where it was saved by the operating system, not by Splitz.)
None of this information leaves your device through Splitz. We do not have access to it, we cannot see it, and we do not store copies of it on any server. If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it.
Information collected by Firebase Analytics
Splitz uses Firebase Analytics (a Google service) to understand how the app is used so we can improve it. Firebase Analytics collects anonymous usage data, never the contents of your receipts. Specifically:
- App-instance ID: an anonymous identifier generated by Firebase for your installation of the app. It is not linked to your name, email, or other personal information.
- Event data: which screens you viewed and which actions you took (e.g. "scanned a receipt," "assigned items," "requested payment"). Event parameters describe what kind of action, not the underlying receipt content.
- Coarse amounts: dollar values and tip percentages are reported as bucketed ranges (e.g. "$10–$25," "15%–20%"), not exact values.
- Approximate location: derived from your IP address (typically country/region), used by Firebase for analytics geography.
- Device & diagnostic data: device model, OS version, app version, and language. Splitz does not send crash logs.
Firebase Analytics does not receive your receipt images, line-item names, exact amounts, the names you assign to people, or any other content you enter into Splitz.
Firebase Analytics data is processed by Google on our behalf, governed by Firebase's Privacy and Security policy and Google's Privacy Policy.
Information collected by Google AdMob
Splitz displays ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob is a Google advertising service, and when it serves ads in Splitz, it collects certain information from your device. This includes:
- Device identifier: the IDFA on iOS (if you have granted permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt) or the Google Advertising ID (GAID) on Android (unless you have opted out of personalized ads or deleted your advertising ID in system settings).
- Advertising data: information about ads you've been shown and how you interacted with them.
- Product interaction data: how you engaged with ads in the app.
- Coarse location: an approximate location derived from your IP address, used to serve regionally relevant ads.
- Diagnostic data: technical diagnostics used by the AdMob SDK to deliver and measure ads.
AdMob uses this information to serve personalized ads (when you have granted ATT permission), measure ad performance, and prevent fraud. This data is collected by Google, not by Disco Volante Labs. Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
Personalized ads & advertising identifier
AdMob can serve either personalized or non-personalized ads. Personalized ads use your device's advertising identifier; non-personalized ads use contextual signals (like the content of the app and your coarse location) instead.
On iOS: on first launch, Splitz shows you Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you allow tracking, AdMob may serve personalized ads using your IDFA. If you deny, AdMob serves non-personalized ads. Change this any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
On Android: AdMob may use your Google Advertising ID (GAID) to serve personalized ads. Opt out, reset, or delete your advertising ID in Settings → Google → Ads.
In the EEA, UK, and Switzerland: Splitz uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to obtain your consent before personalized ads are served. You'll see the consent form on first launch and can change your choices any time through the in-app "Privacy options" entry.
What we do not do
- We do not collect your receipts, line items, or splitting data.
- We do not have user accounts, and we do not ask for your name, email, or phone number.
- We do not sell your data to anyone. We use Firebase Analytics (Google) for anonymous usage events, and AdMob (Google) serves ads in the app; aside from these Google services, we do not share data with anyone.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites ourselves.
Children's privacy
Splitz is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. The app carries a general-audience rating on the App Store and Google Play, but it is designed for adults managing shared expenses.
Your rights
Because we do not collect your personal information, there is generally no data held by us to access, correct, or delete. Your on-device data can be removed at any time by deleting Splitz from your device.
For data collected by Google AdMob, you can exercise rights (such as opting out of personalized ads) through Google's Ads Settings, Apple's App Tracking Transparency controls on iOS, or the advertising-ID controls on Android described above.
California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the CCPA (as amended by the CPRA) gives you rights to know, delete, correct, opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, and be free from discrimination for exercising those rights. We do not sell personal information. Personalized advertising delivered by Google AdMob may qualify as "sharing" under the CPRA; opt out via Apple ATT controls on iOS or your Android advertising-ID controls.
To exercise any of these rights, email support@discovolantelabs.com.
EEA, UK, and Switzerland residents (GDPR / UK GDPR)
If you are located in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, the GDPR (and its UK / Swiss equivalents) applies to the limited processing we and our service providers carry out. Disco Volante Labs LLC acts as the data controller for analytics events and advertising signals processed in connection with Splitz.
Legal bases for processing
- Legitimate interests: anonymous, aggregated Firebase Analytics events.
- Consent: personalized advertising via Google AdMob is processed only after consent through the Google UMP form on first launch.
Your rights
- Right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability.
- Right to withdraw consent at any time (for personalized advertising, by re-opening the in-app "Privacy options" UMP form).
- Right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
To exercise these rights, email support@discovolantelabs.com.
Data deletion requests
Splitz does not collect personal information or maintain user accounts. The data collected by Firebase Analytics and Google AdMob is tied to anonymous device identifiers (App-instance ID and your device's advertising identifier), not to your identity.
- Uninstall Splitz. This orphans the App-instance ID, and the associated Firebase Analytics data ages out automatically.
- Reset your advertising identifier to break the link with AdMob's records. On Android:
Settings → Google → Ads→ Reset advertising ID. On iOS: revoke tracking permission inSettings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. - For specific deletion requests, contact us at support@discovolantelabs.com.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be reflected in the app's release notes.
